Brewers Arms 3 Brewers Bravos 2
The Arms won the second Brewers Derby and remain tight behind the Premier league leaders. Richard Spurrier hit the best of the match, an impressive 7240 put past David Page to give Bravos the first leg. Derek Taylor and Adam Bateup fought hard for the next frame which went to the Arms man by a small margin but the lead went back to the ‘visitors’ as Paul Moyes-Robb beat Jock Jeffrey. The score went to 2 all as Dilly Williamson took the 4th from Nikki Hinkins and the Arms skipper, Andy Farmer-Wright, saw off Lynne Moyes-Robb to take the win.
The Cock Inn 5 Woolpack 0
A decisive home win for the Cock which pushes them up to third place in division 1. The first 2 legs went to Huw Lincoln and Chris Smith with wins over Nigel Bransby and Jan Hinkins. Anne Stockinger battled bravely in the next to save the match for Woolies but lost narrowly to Jan Smith. Another close game as Adam Cheesmur triumphed over Malc Fuller and the brush was applied when Steve Smith beat Lyn Storr.
Horns Lodge 3 Laughing Fish 2
A good home win for the Lodge against their near neighbours the Laughing Fish. The home side went 2 up with Ron Sheridan and Kevin Stevens defeating Andy Brooks and Ray Carpenter. Frame 3 saw 8820 from Henry Brooks put past Dave Tiffin but the win came in the next frame as Chris Farrow took the match from Jim Ashford. The Fish grabbed the last point with a win for Les Whiteman over Peter Shaw.
St Francis 3 Watermill B 2
The Bees newbie, Roy Wells, did enough at the start of frame 1 to get a result over Roger Wallbank and a tough win for Gavin Boyd over Foggers made it 2 nil to the away side. Saints then got a grip of the match as Bob Ellis beat Paul Blackman, Chris Little took out Kim Stenning and a Shaun Morris 5830 against Martin Range was more than enough to secure the home win.
Hurst B 1 Hurst A 4
Another derby match, this time at the Hurst Club where the A side won well to move up to 3rd in the premier. Ian Giffen and Pete Hall had a good scrap with Pete finally coming out best, which was followed by 6020 from Rob Hall to beat Darrell Skinner. Lorraine Hall got a 5410 score to put Chris Kirkham out in the cold and secure the match win before Colin Robbins hit 5290 past Jenny Edwards to give the B side their only point. Another good fight for the last point where a 6120 from Peter Edwards was just too good for Steve King.
HHUSC 2 Mill House Z 3
The Zeds stay top of the pile after this close win away to the United Services Club where 5300 from Graham Sparksman in frame 1 just wasn’t good enough to top 6900 from Graham Daniels. Alan Downs followed this with a 6550 of his own against Ron Wales to put the visitors 2 up before a free-scoring Terry Gasson put 5970 past Johnny Haigh to get the Club onto the score board. Andy Guy then played well to take the 4th from Clive Thompson and a decider was needed. Here we saw 5920 from Barry Timson to take the match from Mick Kirwan.
Plough 4 Eight Bells 1
A second half revival didn’t start here for the Bells after a firm defeat away to the Plough. The home side went into a 2 nil lead with wins for Richard Todd and Dave Knight over Ros Appleby and Neil Higgins respectively. Trevor Appleby called a halt to the Plough surge when he defeated Chase Newman in the third frame but the inevitable came about as Jan Bithell bullied Tony Driver into defeat. The last point went to the Plough as Darren Newman proved too strong for Rob Driver. - Roy Wells, Fixtures Secretary.
